A sample of adolescents admitted to a Soweto hospital was analyzed to determine the disease profile. Pregnancy & related states proved to be the most common diagnosis, followed by trauma resulting from assault & violence, epilepsy, & minor surgical procedures. Emotional disturbances, including attempted suicide, were as prominent in third world adolescents as in their peers in the first world. Additional findings are detailed. 19 refs. (LH)
