The health of males aged 20-64 in the medical, legal, teaching & clerical professions is evaluated in 6 countries based on official statistics & findings over the past century using standardized mortality ratio as an index. Consistent differences in mortality are exhibited-low among teachers & clergy, high among lawyers & physicians. Noted causes are coronary heart disease, suicide & vascular lesions of the central nervous system. A conceptual scheme is offered for future research areas.
