The author addresses the view that violence, both self-inflicted & societally inflicted, threatens the survival & the future of the black teenager in America. A new formulation must be devised that allows us to understand who the black adolescent is. It is necessary to respond to the causes of violence & develop an holistic approach to evaluation & treatment of these individuals. (LH)
