A mailed questionnaire was used to investigate the specific clues displayed by completed suicides as remembered by a sample of surviving family members. Most respondents reported at least one clue on the part of the deceased loved one. Findings indicate that information was available to enable survivors to recognize the suicide completers’ intent prior to the suicidal act. The value of education about clues/warning signs is noted.
