A crisis stabilization unit was instituted by Northwest Dade Community Mental Health Center in response to the increasing suicidal adolescent population. The program focuses on individual treatment as well as the environment and support system, especially the family. An intensive short-term treatment approach includes four basic techniques: The use of stress, the use of symptoms, space manipulation and resetting of boundaries, and the use of support, education and guidance.
