The peer case review team was founded in 1983 by a committee of hotline volunteers with the goal of assisting chronic repeat callers to find healthier paths to their own recovery reducing the frequency of their noncrisis calls to the hotline. The team uses a monitoring process and contract implementation, which are described, to deal with chronic callers. Results of the program show a drastic reduction in the number of chronic calls over the two years since its inception.
