In 1982 a peak in suicides in a 4 county area of Northwest Ohio precipitated recommendations for a massive suicide education program, a resource library, support groups & a 24-hourcrisis line. Implementation of the program included identification of problems unique to a rural area. A comprehensive, multilevel training program provides community education through a pyramid approach. The program is not expensive, has saved lives in rural Ohio & can be implemented anywhere in the United States.
