This paper focuses on the importance of suicide prevention programs in correctional facilities. Recommendations include better screening for mental health problems & suicidal behavior at the time of booking, additional training for the correctional staff, & the availability of mental health professionals to evaluate targeted inmates. A system perspective in the assessment of an individual is imperative & involves the co-operation of the mental health, medical, & correctional staff.
