An Austrian newspaper’s reports on suicide & attempted suicide were investigated over an entire year (1984-85). A qualitative-quantitative investigation showed various ways of reporting suicide which are discussed along with the press attitude toward suicide. Notes that suicide is presented as the only way of solving the problem or conflict & it is suggests that the press could make a valuable intervention prevention contribution by writing on alternatives to suicide.
