In the fall of 1968, a survey was conducted of all US suicide prevention centres in operation to obtain information regarding their thinking & practice in emeregency rescue services. Two important findings emerged: 1) only 23% of respondents provided rescue services at the scene of a possible suicide. Reasons why these services were not provided are discussed. 2) inadequate provision for the the training & protection of staff & volunteers in centres offering rescue services.
