Evaluates 5 needs of patients diagnosed as having a life-threatening illness. The needs for hope, honesty, information, emotional expression & for discussing death are investigated in a sample of 61 adult, terminal cancer patients in the middle phase of their illness. Results indicated the need for a flexible approach in dealing with this type of patient. The needs for hope, honesty & information were important but individuals differred in their need to discuss feelings & aspects of death.
