Community unemployment conditions in Florida from 1960-72 were investigated as possible correlates of 4 social indices: state mental hospital admissions, suicides, homicides, and motor vehicle accidents. The hypothesis that increases in unemployment are disruptive of normative social behaviors and decreases are facilitative of normative social behaviors was tested. Data was obtained from Work Force Estimates for 8 metropolitan statistical areas. Conclusions and results are discussed.
