The demographic, situational & environmental characteristics of 136 homicide & 114 suicide victims in Richmond, Virginia, were examined to test the status integration theory of suicide & the violence theory of homicide, & to develop a prediction equation to descriminate between the 2 types of victims. It was concluded that both homicide & suicide may be affected by a process in which learned subcultural values influence each act in certain circumstances. A 90% accurate equation is developed.
