This study compares 10 different typologies in an effort to establish fundamental cross theoretical types. All typologies were used in classifying 404 suicide case histories to determine their efficacy in describing empirical data. 5 clusters with overlapping subtypes were found: aggression, alienation, escape, depression-low esteem, & confusion. 86% of all cases could be classified in one of these categories: the 5 clusters were found to differ from each other in various characteristics.
