The author of this letter to the editor argues against two studies published in 1980 which suggest that half of the female physicians practicing in the United States suffer from “primary affective disorder” and thus have a high suicide rate. The author points out flaws within the study, both logical and methodological. Replies to the letter are also discussed. (5+ ref)
