Explored are 4 indices of national character (anxiety, extroversion, compassion, & quality of life) for their relationship to one another & to rates of suicide & homicide in 16 industrialized nations. Results indicate that the measures of national character studied may not be independent of one another & that they are related to rates of personal violence.
