An investigation into the effectiveness of psychiatric consultation in suicide attempt cases admitted to University Hospital, Leiden, was conducted by the Dept. of Clinical Psychology, State University of Leiden. Follow-up interviews were conducted with 120 of 173 patients admitted. The patients’ judgement of the consultations was generally unfavorable. Shortcomings of current psychatric practice & suggestions for improvement are discussed. (5 refs.) (NBB)
