The goals of the first crisis line in the Republic of Slovenia, Yugoslavia, was to reduce suicide rates. This has been difficult to evaluate. However, the centre has received & documented over 15,000 calls in its 5 years of operation. Selection & training of volunteers is discussed; demographic & epidemiologic data collected has provided profiles of those who contact the service. NBB
