Investigated is suicide among the elderly in Slovena, Yugoslavia, during 1977-83. Suicide rates for this period averaged 63.1/100,000 for the aged , compared to 32.7/100,000 for the general public. In descending order, somatic diseases, lonliness, & marriage & family disputes are primary motivations for suicide, compared to marital & family disputes, somatic diseases, & lonliness for the general population. The aged used violent methods. Implications for prevention are dicussed. NBB
