There is reasonable consensus that all available methods should be employed to help the individual in crisis intervention. This includes the use of psychotropic drugs, even though overuse may lead to addiction. Anti-depressant drugs, especially amitryptiline, carry a high risk of fatal intoxication. The author states, however, rather than withhold these potentially dangerous, but very beneficial drugs, more care should be taken in the area of control & prescription.
