The author discusses the high rate of suicide in Hungary, citing socio-cultural factors that may precipitate self-destructive behavior. Statistics indicate that the highest rates of suicide & of alcoholism are found among those living on farms; 34% of suicides consumed alcohol before the attempt; 60% of attempts were the result of family conflict. The interrelationship of alcoholism & suicide is examined. (NBB)
