A study of suicide rates(1963-83) in Portugal indicates a change in the suicide profile of different age groups, particularily among 10-24 yr. olds. Regional differences were evident, suicide being less common in the Catholic North. Rates, for those 10 or more years in 1980-82, were 5.3 in the north & 14.4 in the south. The author suggests that the social & political changes due to the revolution of 1974 have produced anomie among the youth, increasing the suicide rates for this group.
