Individual vs. Sociocultural Origins of Suicidal Crises and Implications for Practice
Hoff L A
The author reports on a one-year study of victim-blaming/self-blaming among battered women. The study involved 9 battered women & 131 social network members. Values & network factors were examined for their influence on women, before, during & after their experience of violence. Psychologically-oriented crisis intervention has limited use for battered women as the crisis does not originate from the psyche but from a socially disadvantaged position in the social structure.
