Presented are case studies to show manipulative behavior in patients. Early recognition of the manipulation can make management of such a patient easier. The principle & technique of setting limits is discussed at length. Dealing with both direct & indirect requests is also illustrated. Caution is urged with expression of suicidal thoughts or intentions, but the authors feel that if the patient is neither alcoholic nor manic-depressive the risk is probably slight. 3 ref. (NBB)
