The prevention of suicide should be based on (1) increasing the awareness of danger signals prior to the occurrence of suicidal behavior through increasing the knowledge of the public & professional groups (2) mobilizing community resources conducive to better mental health & (3) providing facilities for the care of those with suicidal preoccupations & behavior. 18 refs.
