Examined are the risks of later suicide among suicide attempters. References are made to cuurent follow-up research. Risk factors or problem areas have been defined, which include: time period of 6 months to one year following discharge from hospital; discharge from a mental hospital, as opposed to a general hospital; being female; being 55 years or older; long standing problems with interpersonal relationships; having a psychotic disorder; being an addict or and alcoholic. 25 refs.
