Depressive Neurosis: A Long-Term Prospective and Retrospective Follow-up Study of Former Inpatients

The results of a 7 year follow-up study of 50 former psychiatric inpatients with a diagnosis of depressive neurosis (DMS ISI criteria, major depression) are reported. Results indicated generally unfavorable outcome & symptoms for 40% of the sample: six committed suicide after discharge; 40% showed mild chronic symptoms; only 20% were satisfactorily improved or completely remitted. 36 refs.
