The canon law of 1917 forbade a Christian burial to those who ended their lives by their own hands. However, a new funeral rite was adopted following the Second Vatican Council as part of a liturgical reform. The minister may ask for a merciful divine judgment & forgiveness of the sins of the deceased, as well as for a part in the final resurrection of the dead. (p.77). 12 ref. (NBB)
