CSF Monoamine Metabolites in Chronic Schizophrenic Patients Who Attempt Suicide

The monomine metabolites 5-HIAA, HVA, & MHPG were measured in the lumber CSF of 27 chronic schizophrenic patients who had at one time attempted suicide, & compared with 27 schizophrenics who had attempted suicide. No significant differenceswere found between either the violent of non-violent attempters & non-attempters in any of the monoamine metabolites. More attempters had had previous major depressive disorders, ect treatments, & more psychiatric admissions than non-attempters. 27 ref.(HBB)
