Pharmacotherapy of Depressions
Dr. George Molnar suggests that antidepressants should be selected on the basis of the physician’s experience with that drug, its pharmacologic profile, & the patient’s personal or family history of response to that drug. Antidepressants have a low safety margin; elderly & infirm patients are especially at risk for cardiac, antiholinergic, & CNS side effects. Suicide risk must always be evaluated. 15 ref.
