A study of 36 general hospitals in The Netherlands revealed that in general there were no well-defined policies for the management of suicidal patients. Improvements suggested include a mandatory psychological screening of all attempters, preparation of the family for handling the suicidal patients upon release, & more continuity of care between hospital & outpatient aftercare.
