Dr. Comstock feels that more attention should be given to the conscious & unconscious attitudes toward suicide attempters by the medical care team. Better care could be given these patients, she states, if the physician encouraged staff to express their feelings in a direct manner. Also discussed are clinical assessment of suicide risk after the patient has regained consciousness, techniques for interviewing post-attempt patients, & referral for psychiatric treatment. (NBB)
