The author takes a public health approach to adolescent suicide. Identifying at-risk individuals & linking them to treatment is essential. She discusses the epidemiology of adolescent suicide & uses an excerpt from the CBS “Soap-Box” program, which features a discussion of suicide by teenagers, to illustrate the psychodynamics of suicide among this age group. Peer counselling programs that focus on listening, understanding, & giving emotional support are suggested as a prevention strategy.
