The authors present findings from a 6-month prospective study of 39 cases of attempted suicide in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria (1984-5). Most were below the age of 34. Male to female ratio was 1.4:1, students accounting for the largest occupational group. Chemicals & psychotrophic drugs were the common methods used, especially among those with a formal education. 12 ref., 4 Tables.
