In a 3 year period, 749 consecutive cases of attempted suicide were presented to the Emergency department of an urban hospital. Of these, 99 patients were identified as having attempted 3 or more times; 364 were first attempters. Rating scales (BMLS, IS, HS, PRS) were used to evaluate these subjects. Compared to first attempters, multiple attempters scored higher on lethality & depression scores and lower on impulsivity indicators.
