The case history of a 30-year-old black female who attempted suicide is presented. She first tried to slash her throat but when this failed, plunged the knife downward from the ciricoid cartilage of the neck toward the left scapula. The knife disappeared downward into the wound when she changed her body position. It was removed surgically & the patient had an uneventful recovery. (NBB)
