A Study of the Suicide Problem in the Emergency Suite of University Hospital

This article is a retrospective study of suicidal risk admissions to the Emergency Department of the University of Michigan’s Medical Center for the periods July 1 – June 30, 1956-57 & 1961-62. Of the 133 cases studied, 47 were from the year 1956-56, & 89 from 1961-62. Sex, age, lethality of attempt, race, religion, marital status, occupation, country of origin, time of attempt, previous psychiatric history & attempts, clues, methods, diagnosis & treatment are examined. 6 ref.
