This study is a retrospective analysis of all in- & out-patient suicides associated with the Royal Ottawa Hospital since it became a psychiatric facility (1969-1983). Inpatient suicides totalled 19 (78/100,000); outpatients suicides 93 (228/100,000). Inpatients had a 5-time risk of suicide & outpatients a 15-time risk when compared to the national average of 15/100/000. Single, unemployed males with alcoholism, especially among outpatients, were at highest risk. 15 ref. (NBB)
