Almost every physician in clinical practice eventually will confront a suicidal patient. Knowledge of the population most at risk for suicide, the physical & mental illnesses closely associated with it, & the clinical features of the high risk patient, will assist the physician in managing the suicidal crisis & preventing needless morbidity & mortality.
