The cases of male inmates involved malingering, possible suicide, parental problem behaviors, & manipulation of the system. It is suggested that in selected cases, paradoxical strategies tap the client’s strengths, help avoid adversarial relationships & power struggles, & produce change quickly. 12 ref.
