Prominent medical complications of eating disorders include heart damage, failure of the endocrine system, infarction & perforation of the stomach after acute dilation, multiple suicide attemps, aspiration, injury of rupture of the esophagus, severe bleeding per rectum causing anemia due to laxative abuse, hypokalemic nephropathy, depressive disorders due to starvation & severe erosion of the enamel of the teeth. The author states these patients are best treated by medically trained personnel.
