Compared 5-year follow up data from 100 immigrant West Indian & Asian attempted suicide patients. A preliminary classification of these Ss is described based on evidence of repeated hospitalization for attempted suicide & psychiatric care. Findings include: (1) Ss with a history of recurrent psychiatric disorder were geographically mobile; (2) repeated suicide attempts occurred only among West Indian female & Asian male Ss; & (3) hospital-prone Ss often belonged to minority religious groups.
