This newsletter contains the 1984 policy statement by Canada’s private sector automobile insurers on the young driver problem. Statistics are cited that indicate young males are 3 times more likely to die in MVA’s than by suicide, the second leading cause of death for this age group (15-19years). Statistics for females indicate a 4:1 ratio. Expressed in deaths per 100,000, MVA’s account for 63.1 (males) & 19.0 (females). Suicide rates quoted are 19.3 & 4.4 respectively. (NBB)
