Relationships among several alcohol-related mortality measures for continental United States counties(1975-77) are analyzed. 3 indices are developed through factor analysis: a single factor index which combines all of the mortality indicators, a composite index which reflects mainly a combination alcohol-related health problems & homicide, & an index which reflects a combination of alcohol-related accidents & suicide. Analysis confirms the combined indices are greater than mortality variables.
