The author argues that the incidence of suicidal death is underreported, particlarly for adolescents. The rate of 12/100,000 is disputed & it is suggested estimates of attempted suicides would give a more accurate picture of the incidence of suicidal behaviors. He further suggests that many adolescent MVA’s are really suicides although this is difficult to prove. He suggests suicidality & preoccupation with death may be characteristics of the adolescent phase of development. (NBB)
