Relevant literature in respect to attempted suicide & suicide among students is briefly reviewed. In 10 months from April 1st, 1971, there were 35 student suicidal attempts in Madurai, of whom 7 proved fatal. Sex & age distribution, methodsof suicidal attempt & psychological characteristics of the cases were discussed. A plea is made for institution of mental health services incorporating suicide prophylaxis measures in educational institutions.
