Survey data collected by the author(1974) in the city of Flint, Michigan was utilized to develop a suicide potential scale which can be employed to determine the suicide potential of a general population. Operationally, suicide potential refers here to the increasing lethality of the following subjective states: suicidal ideations, suicidal threats & actual suicide attempts. Social Area Analysis was employed to detect census tract populations with high & low rates of suicidal activity.
