Data for this study was drawn from all psychiatric admissions to a 400-bed psychiatric unit of a large Texas V.A. General Hospital for the years 1959-61 (N=4937) each admission daywas assigned the appropiate moon phase. Analysis of resultant data indicated that while some weekly cycling was observed, the significant relationship between admissions & lunar phase represent chance matchings of 2-week-long cycles. “Suicide, which has no clear weekly cycle, does not show such matchings.” (NBB)
