The advantage of professional consultation among psychiatrists is examined. The author states that psychiatrists often carry a resistance against showing a patient to a colleague, assuming this may interfere with the therapeutic relationship they have established. He further states that every therapist should ask for consultation when a patient is lost to suicide as a search for missed clues may help the therapist avoid disaster with future patients. (NBB)
