A discussion of factors that may precipitate a suicide attempt. The case history of an 18-year old college student who attempted suicide when she could no longer cope with the loss of a sexual relationship, rejection by her peers, & failure at college is examined. The authors stress the importance of detecting 3 major risk indicators for suicide: depression, suicidal ideation & hopelessness.
